Slowly, shakily, with unnatural movements, a human form, scarlet in the firelight, crawled out on to the floor of the cave…
Enter a space of limbo: of light and dark, of good and evil, of demons and insects. Inspired by C.S Lewis’s poem of the same name, A Reptile Dreamed invokes childhood nightmares, laments vanished hopes and enacts buried desires.
Reason said: “Do not fear that demon in your door,it is but a patterning of light and dark.”
But the demon hisses: “If you see me, I am there, and if I am there, you draw me to life.”
Text, movement, song and lamentation will combine the themes of lepidoptery (butterfly collecting) – evasion and capture, deception and mimicry, flight and metamorphosis – with love, dreams and dishonesty in this playful exploration of insects and infidelity.
